1st Semester Project
What We Did:Celebration Slam was a live performance of our poems we wrote within our groups of 4 while trying to relate with life and/or death. We had two performances, one at school and another in a park both for Dia de los Muertos. Along with these poem we had our two team drummers create a beat to be played with us preforming our poems. To lead up to this we learned about the making of a poem and learned about spoken word poetry. We watched several videos about some poetry slam performances and even had the chance to go and see one live. We also had a workshop with Kane Smego and he opened up our mind and had us do activities to get us started with creating our own pieces.

Celebration Slam Reflection:Out of the whole entire project, my favorite most memorable moment would definitely have to be the workshop with Kane Smego. The whole experience with him really opened up my mind about various things. (1) That I can actually write poetry and it isn’t always difficult. (2) Poems do not have to be super long. It can even be just 6 words. (3) Concrete nouns is important. During the workshop, I put myself out of my own comfort zone by sharing two of my poems I wrote. I normal do not show that much of my writing pieces and never my poetry because I didn’t think it was that good but now knowing that it’s okay to not be perfect on the first draft is okay comforts me. The most difficult times was probably the actually writing of our poem part. I personally feel like my group struggled going in deeper with some of our lines. It was hard for us to use concrete nouns and not use cliche lines. I feel like it pushed us to think hard and we got a solid poem out of our struggles. We can always improve though. If I got to change one thing, it would be to just make the poem longer and go more in depth. I feel like we could have expanded on some of the lines we choose. Besides that probably to fix more of the cliches.

2nd Semester Projects
A Tiny Home is Where the HeART is Book |
What We Did: |
Click the button bellow to check out my first article "Siobhan Arnold: Th Process of an Artist".
Click the button bellow to check out my second article "Siobhan Arnold: Th Process of an Artist".
Click the button bellow to check out our interview questions we asked our artist Siobhan Arnold.
Reflection: |
In the humanities portion of The Tiny House project we wrote a book about our artists and our process of designing for them. First we discussed open ended questions. We learned that to get better interview responses its easier to ask open ended questions so we get a more clear idea on what the interviewee is saying. For example instead of saying "Was your childhood good or bad?" you can ask "Tell me about your childhood, any memorable stories you'd like to share?" instead. We conducted a mock interview for some practice before we went to Space 4 Art to interview our artists. Transcribing our mock interviews was pretty easy and made it easier for us to analyze the interview. After going to interview our artists we started to write two different biographical articles each one different from our group members.

Looking back on this project it is probably the one I can see my writing improving. over all I really enjoyed the different skills we got to learn. The skills went from learning how to interview, Learning about open ended questions and then compiling how were autobiographical articles into a book. something that I wish that I would have done differently is probably as my artist questions to go with the article that I am writing. For example for my article about the process of an artist I could've asked my artists about some of the key things that she does and reasons why. if I would have done this would've been more personal for my artist and he can show how unique everyone's process is. also what during the creation of our book the last few days I volunteered to do some extra pages. I really enjoyed making these extra pages because I got to design it to my liking with of course the approval of my teacher but then I got to see the book come together as a whole. Something that I can take away from this project is probably the real world experiences we have had it with our artists and along with the skills we learned.
Character Hat for Romeo and Juliet
What We Did:
Before we started reading Romeo and Juliet we learned about Shakespeare and his work. We learned that his work is still being produced today into various movies and TV shows. We analyzed his characters in Romeo and Juliet and learned about what a dramatic foil is. Along with that we learned about what a Soliloquy, Direct Address, Dramatic Irony, Situational Irony, Verbal Irony, Puns, Asides and about Comic Reliefs. After that we choose a partner to create a hat. With our partner and the character we were assigned we created a hat to show the characters personality.
Reflection:
Our hat was inspired by Lord Capulet. In the play he is the father of Juliet and married to Lady Capulet. His personality was full of pride, stuck up but yet a good father. Although, he wanted his daughter to marry of so early to Paris to cover up some issues. His relationship with his wife is definitely questionable due to their arguing. We chose to create a big hat to represent his big ego. The black letters shows how important and proud he is of himself. The beads are red and white as well as the feathers so show Capulet pride.
