U.s. basic and social needs historically and nowThe basic needs have not always been met for everyone in the U.S. For example during the “Starving times” in Virginia, three-quarters of the English colonists starved to death. Even now if you go to a well populated area of homeless people, they may not have one or even two of the basic needs. In response, there are places where homeless people could stay for a night or so to shower, eat and sleep. Social needs are harder to make fair and have everyone on an even playing field. This is because some people work hard to have what they have and if everyone had the same as those people, it’s unjust to them. When thinking about this I use the comparison if someone who did all of the group work for a project deserves an A, does the rest of the group get an A too because its a “group” project? There is a certain degree in which people do deserve some sort of baseline of the social needs, but to really exceed the people of the U.S. must work for it.

advocating
For about two years now, I’ve had my heart set on studying biomedical engineering in college. Any subject in STEM interested me so much because math and engineering just came easy to me and I found a love for science, especially biology. I knew that STEM is the face of the future and that it will be in high demand in jobs to come. We will always need medicine and technology is the future. This project was perfect for me to learn more about women’s presence in the STEM fields. Now, learning about the 3 major parts of my essay which include STEM being implemented in elementary school, mentors helping women throughout college and into careers as well as keeping women in the field by encouraging them with their choices about starting a family, I would love to become a major influence on others to help out with the change of more women in STEM. I not only want to advocate for women in STEM, but any issues that I feel strongly and passionate about I will now surely stand up and promote what I believe in.
